Progress on the new piece

This has been such a joy to work on, I'm so happy to have the space to pin it on the wall (even if it is on top of an older piece). Here is the newest pen and ink work in progress. Tenebrae, my faithful assistant is in the picture as well, she is always within arms reach and I've even set her up with her own chair (although she tends to steal mine every chance she gets).

Fall Happenings

What a month! I am in the process of getting ready to take down the show at the TD Gallery, wrapping up drawing classes at the Spartanburg art museum and getting my students ready for the end of the semester at the college. Luckily I've still found time to work and the 5 foot pen and ink drawing I've been plugging away at sure looks promising. After an exhaustive search I finally found a model for it!  I'm halfway done with the first layer now and I will post an update in the upcoming week, but in the meantime, I should probably play with this very upset and bored studio cat.

Working Small

After finishing my first year teaching the city,  moving into a new apartment, and getting a new kitten named Gypsy Danger, things are finally winding down and allowing me to work again! Well, I've always been working, but now I'm back full throttle. I have been starting to work smaller and will be updating the site soon, so please be patient. In the meantime, I have included a work that did me well this last month, "A Foolish Sheep Makes the Wolf Her Confessor".

Checking in

It has been a while since I have last posted, but fear not!  I have been working on drawing over 1,000 ears of corn for my next piece so I am, pardon the pun, up to my ears in it!  It has been slow going and the finished work seems as if it will be roughly 10 feet long and in three pieces! Wow!  I am really excited for this piece called (tentatively) "Rich Men Keep Their Souls Under the Covers of Their Cash Boxes"

Wish me luck! I better get back to work, but here is a snippit of one of the components I finished a few weeks ago.  Tell me if that little lady looks familiar.

UPCOMING SHOWS FOR FEBRUARY

Please join us for two upcoming shows in the month of February! If you are out and about the Carolinas, you are in luck!  I will have a few paintings on display for Greenville Tech's painting invitational held at the Riverworks Gallery located in beautiful, scenic, downtown Greenville, SC, (with the reception on the 22nd? more information as I get it). 

The month of February also marks the date for the opening the much anticapated “Standard Deviations”, a gallery show consisting of multiple narratives derived from modified prints.  The original two-hundred and fifty engraved linoleum plates are displayed humbly in the center of the gallery and are surrounded by a false horizon composed of the roughly seventy narratives they were used to create.  Here, in this meditative space, everyday objects are rearranged to become elements for strange figures and landscapes, which ultimately raise the question as to how we really relate to the objects in our everyday world. WONDERFUL!  This show will be held in the museum at Western Carolina University, from Feb 21st-March 1st with an opening reception on Feb. 28th!  I'll be there, and I hope you will be too!

Chattering Triptychs

Whew, What a week!  I am up and working again!  Nothing feels better than ink on your hands and sawdust in  your hair.  I am currently working on a sculptural triptych that will go into my February show.  Since it's still in the early stages, I will leave you with this little beauty I am tentatively naming "Chatter".

100 blocks!

This was taken more than a few weeks back, I'm up to around 250 now! It's hard to find a place where I can lay them all out!  Well on the way to 365, it feels like my hands could bend steel at this point.

A lively studio

Here is a little piece I made to liven up the studio a bit.  The tattoo image was appropriated from a popular design that I made a few fun changes to.  That was fun, but now it's time to get back to work!
